Saving PingPlotter Data to Cloud Services

How can I automatically save PingPlotter and alert data to my cloud drive?

Solution

If the data from your PingPlotter alerts is an important part of your work or your network troubleshooting routines, it's necessary to always have access to it. Whether it's on your phone, laptop, or another workstation, the ability to see or download the data from your alerts can be incredibly useful.

In addition, having a way to back up your PingPlotter settings and data automatically can be useful in more ways than one! Recognizing this need, we've put together some helpful instructions to get you up and running with PingPlotter and the top 3 cloud storage services: Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox.

To backup PingPlotter data to cloud storage, you can point your online repository to the location(s) listed below.

To synchronize data from PingPlotter alerts to cloud storage, configure the file path in PingPlotter while setting up an alert - pointing to the folder that you've chosen to sync. (See PingPlotter Alerts)


Google Drive (Windows)

Google Drive has the ability to synchronize with a local folder from any location on your device. All you have to do is download and install the app, then follow the prompts after the application opens.

After installation is complete, you'll need to sign in to your account. Then, you can pick and choose which local folders you'd like to synchronize with Google Drive, and which online folders you'd like to synchronize with your local machine. 

Google Drive (Mac)

Google Drive has the ability to synchronize with a local folder from any location on your device. All you have to do is download and install the app, then follow the prompts after the application opens. 

After installation is complete, you'll need to sign in to your account. Then, you can pick and choose which local folders you'd like to synchronize with Google Drive, and which Google Drive folders you'd like to synchronize with your local machine.


Microsoft OneDrive (Windows)

If you have a Microsoft account, you can take advantage of the OneDrive cloud storage service. To get started synchronizing your local machine with OneDrive, you can download the app here.

Once you've downloaded and installed OneDrive, you'll need to sign in. After Microsoft has verified your identity, you'll notice a screen saying something like "Your OneDrive folder is here: C:\Users\***\OneDrive". 

If you'd like to change the location, simply click the "Change Location" just above the "Next" button. To synchronize local folders with OneDrive, you can drag and drop them into your OneDrive folder.

Microsoft OneDrive (Mac)

If you have a Microsoft account, you can take advantage of the OneDrive cloud storage service. To get started synchronizing your local machine with OneDrive, you can download the app here.

After installation, the application will be installed in the User directory, and a shortcut will be placed on your desktop. To synchronize local folders with your online Dropbox, drag and drop them into the desktop shortcut. The default file path for the direct route is "C:\Users\***\Dropbox".

Dropbox (Mac)

If you have a Dropbox account, you can also configure Dropbox to sync your PingPlotter folders. You'll want to first download the Dropbox app here.

After installation, the application will be installed in the User directory, and a shortcut will be placed on your desktop. To synchronize local folders with Dropbox, you can drag and drop them into your Dropbox folder. 


Pro tip:

Each of these cloud storage services allows you to customize your notifications - allowing you to receive alerts when new PingPlotter data has been uploaded.
